Distribution: Patagonia (C and S Chile, W Argentina), between 36°S and 52°S.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: Placed in Lontra by van Zyll de Jong (1987). Reviewed by Larivière (1999 a).
