Type Locality: Unknown; restricted to "vicinity of Canton, China " by G. M. Allen (1938).

Vernacular Names: Raccoon dog.

Distribution: China, Japan, Mongolia, North and South Korea, Russia. Introduced into Europe and now found in: Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
