Type Locality: "camp on the river Platte, at the fording place of the Pawnee Indians, twenty-seven miles [43 km] below the confluence of the North and South, or Paduca Forks." [Camp on 20 June 1820 reported to be at 40.59'15'N (vol. 2)].

Vernacular Names: Swift Fox.

Synonyms: Vulpes hebes Merriam 1902 .

Distribution: Canada (SE British Columbia, SC Alberta and SW Saskatchewan), USA (C North America to NW Texas panhandle and E New Mexico).

Conservation: U.S. ESA – Endangered as V. velox hebes (Canada); IUCN – Lower Risk (cd).
