New record for the San Carlos, Sarapiquí, Tortuguero and Bebedero River basins; previous records of the species in Costa Rican freshwaters were restricted to the Tárcoles River basin. New elevational record (1 m. a.s.l.); previous records of the species in Costa Rican freshwaters were restricted to 112–1516 m.a.s.l. Basis of the record: One specimen was captured in the Laguna Jalova, Barra del Parismina, Pococí, Limón (10.34266, -83.39668), at 1 m. a.s.l., on August 24, 2021, by Jorge Leiva (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad—ICE); additional specimens have been reported by artisanal anglers in natural pounds and small to large rivers on the San Carlos, Sarapiquí and Bebedero River basins.
