Fig. 27

Trigona fimbriata Smith, 1857: 52, ♀.

Type material examined

Holotype

Type locality

Singapore.

Notes

This species was not dealt with by Baker (1993). Rasmussen (2008: 16) indicates that the type is in the NHMUK as type 17b, 1182. This specimen is labelled as “Type” with a white disc label reading “Mal-ca” [Malacca]. This is another Stevens purchase, accessioned in 1855. The specimen is further labelled as “ Lectotype Det. J.S. Moure 1957”. The specimen bears no label by Smith, and so there is no indication that it was ever examined by him. As the terra typica is Singapore and the OUMNH specimen (a singleton) is labelled as Singapore, it is reasonable to treat it as the holotype and the NHMUK specimen is an invalid lectotype and of no type status.
