HOLOTYPE: AMNH 786041, adult male, collected at Karimui, 3650 ft, 06.30S, 144.50E (PNG General Reference Map, 1984), Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea (5 Eastern Highlands District, Mandated Territory of New Guinea), on 3 July 1965, by Jared M. Diamond (no. 715).
COMMENTS: Diamond gave the AMNH number of the holotype in the original description; he had six adult males (including the type), four adult females, and one immature sex?. An additional two adult males, three immatures sex? and one juvenile sex? were prepared as skeletons. The following paratypes are in AMNH: Karimui, AMNH 809544–809547, four females, AMNH 809548–809550, three males, AMNH 809551, immature, sex?, AMNH skeleton no. 6781, male, all collected in July 1965 .
Most authors have recognized gajduseki; Payne (2010: 376) synonymized it with wahgiensis. See Diamond 1972: 410–412) for discussion.
