Ogdoecosta epilachnoides (Champion 1893)
(Figs 8 A–C)
Chelymorpha epilachnoides Champion 1893:158
Male. Length 10.4–11.3 mm, width 7–8.2 mm (n=15). Black, glabrous, moderately shiny.
HEAD. Surface black, rugose; supraorbital area with scattered short setae. Interocular width up to 1.5 times diameter of eyes. Antennae long, reaching pronotal base; antennomere III longer than IV, antennomere I shorter than XI. Clypeus oval in shape, pubescent, with large punctures; over 2 times wider than long. Labrum 2–3 times wider than long; surface smooth, with setae at periphery.
THORAX. Pronotum 2 times wider than long, surface convex, pubescent, with fine and close punctures, black; anterior margin emarginated, margination U-shaped; explanate margin with coarse punctures; base sinuous; hind angles sharp and produced behind with close punctures; pronotal disc with shallow longitudinal groove. Prosternum pubescent, rugose. Scutellum triangular, surface smooth, black. Elytral surface glabrous, black with 6– 10 large orange spots; spots arranged with two close to base, two close to elytral margin, two more close to apex; elytral margin with short setae; punctures coarse and dense; humeri rounded, impunctate. Prosternal process pubescent, with distinctive groove, apex rounded. Mesosternal process deeply notched.
ABDOMEN. Ventrites surface smooth, pubescent, black. Aedeagus length no more than 2 mm, apex acute (Fig. 19 D).
Female. Similar to male. Length 12.8–13.3 mm, width 7.6–8.6 mm (n=15). Interocular width up to 1.5 times diameter of eyes. Clypeus over 2 times wider than long. Labrum 2–3 times wider than long. Pronotum 2–3 times wider than long. Spermatheca well sclerotized (Fig. 19 D), over 2 times longer than wide, apex acute, with velum; spermathecal duct very coiled.
Comparative note. This species is distinguished from O. juvenca by its glabrous elytra, oval-shaped clypeus, distinctly grooved prosternal process, and spermatheca well sclerotized with densely coiled duct.
Remarks. Champion mentioned (1893) that some specimens exhibit a brown spot in the latero-medial area of the pronotum. However, the specimens we examined lacked such spots.
