Limodorum tuberosum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 950. 1753.
"Habitat in America septentrionali." RCN: 6869.
Lectotype (Mackenzie in Rhodora 27: 194. 1925): Clayton 76 (BM-000051136).
Generitype of Limodorum Linnaeus, nom. rej.
Current name: Calopogon tuberosa (L.) Britton & al. ( Orchidaceae).
Note: Limodorum Linnaeus, nom. rej. against Limodorum Boehm. Calopogon R. Br. is a conserved name.
Fernald (in Rhodora 23: 132. 1921) stated that this "rests chiefly upon and draws its specific name directly from … Martyn t. 50". However, we believe that this is insufficiently precise to be accepted as a valid typification (which is fortunate as the illustration is of Bletia purpurea (Lam.) DC.). Luer (Native Orch. Florida: 58. 1972) and Boivin (in Phytologia 42: 397. 1979) follow Mackenzie.
