Lonicera alba Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 175. 1753.

"Habitat in Jamaica, Barbados locis confragosis." RCN: 1368.

Replaced synonym of: Chiococca racemosa L. (1759), nom. illeg.

Type not designated.

Original material: [icon] in Sloane, Voy. Jamaica 2: 97, t. 188, f. 3. 1725 - Typotype: Herb. Sloane 7: 46 (BM-SL); [icon] in Dillenius, Hort. Eltham. 2: 306, t. 228, f. 295. 1732.

Current name: Chiococca alba (L.) Hitchc. ( Rubiaceae).

Note: Steyermark (in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 23: 381. 1972) wrongly indicated a Browne collection (233.1 LINN) acquired by Linnaeus only in 1758 as the type. Howard (Fl. Lesser Antilles 6: 398. 1989) suggested that a specimen in the Sloane herbarium might be an appropriate type (but it was not seen by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name). Lorence (in Monogr. Syst. Bot. Missouri Bot. Gard. 73: 33, 97. 1999) noted Howard’s suggestion and also suggested that unseen Clifford material might be relevant. The name, however, remains untypified.
