Lavandula multifida Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 572. 1753.
"Habitat in regione Baetica." RCN: 4184.
Lectotype (Upson in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 512. 2001): Herb. Clifford: 303, Lavandula 2, sheet A (BM-000628951) .
Current name: Lavandula multifida L. ( Lamiaceae).
Note: Siddiqi (in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 118: 54. 1985) indicated Herb. Linn. 727.2 (LINN) as type but this specimen lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “2”) and is not original material for the name. Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 116. 1983) discussed this name in some detail, concluding "its type probably is HSC [Hortus Siccus Cliffortianus] 303.2". Though this was not an effective choice of type (there are in any case two sheets involved), one of the Clifford sheets was subsequently designated as lectotype by Upson.
