Nemophora karafutonis (Matsumura, 1932)

Material examined. CHINA, Liaoning: 1♂, Heshangmaozi, Benxi County, 23.VI.2010, leg. JY Liu & YP Cai, slide No, SH 20203 .

Diagnosis. Nemophora karafutonis is similar to N. digitivalva sp. nov. in the male genitalia. The differences between them are stated in the diagnosis of the latter species.

Description. Adult (Fig. 14). Male wingspan 15.5 mm.

Head: Vertex black; frons yellow. Eye interocular index 0.51. Proboscis brownish yellow. Labial palpus 1.3 × vertical eye diameter; yellow, with black hairs. Antenna 2.9 × length of forewing; scape purplish brown except yellow on anterior margin; flagellum yellowish brown except dark brown in basal 1/7.

Thorax: Mesonotum brownish yellow; tegula brown except purple distally. Forewing ground color yellow from base to inner fascia, dark brown with purple luster from beyond outer fascia to apex; black rectangular speckle at base of cell; four purplish gray streaks, edged with black scales: first streak from base to middle along costal margin, second streak from base to 3/4 of cell along posterior margin, third streak from near base to 2/5 of wing along 1A+2A, fourth streak from base to near middle along dorsum; four black lines: first line from base to 2/5 of wing along R 1, second line from base to near 3/4 of cell along anterior margin, enlarged apically and forming a triangular spot, with purplish gray scales inside, third line from middle to distal 1/3 of cell, fourth line from base to near 2/5 of wing along CuP; inner and outer fasciae purplish gray, edged with black scales, inner fascia sinuate, outer fascia slightly curved inward, medial fascia yellow, sinuate; four short yellow stripes beyond middle of outer fascia; fringe brown. Hindwing grayish brown, with golden luster; fringe brown. Foreleg yellow ventrally, bluish brown dorsally except tarsus yellow; midleg yellow except tibia bluish brown dorsally; hindleg yellow except tibia brown apically. Epiphysis yellow, with brown scales, at basal 1/3 of tibia, not reaching apex of tibia.

Abdomen: Dark brown.

Male genitalia (Fig. 37). Socius ovoid, length 1.8 × width. Tegumen without median ridge, with a triangular plate from middle to posterior 1/3. Uncus dome-shaped. Valva separated basally, broadly rounded at apex, slightly concave medially on costal margin, obliquely straight on ventral margin; sacculus reaching near apex of ventral margin. Transtilla with a semielliptical anterior emargination; median process broad triangular, reaching middle of tegumen apically. Vinculum 2.6 × length of valva, broadly rounded anteriorly. Phallus slightly longer than vinculum, swollen at base, with a pair of sclerotized belts in distal 1/3 and spines at distal 1/10 (Fig. 37a). Juxta 0.69 × length of vinculum; lateral arm 0.23 × length of arrow head.

Distribution. China (Liaoning), Japan, Russia, South Korea.

Remarks. This species is recorded for the first time in China.
