Poa distans Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 12, 2: 94; Mantissa Plantarum: 32. 1767.

"Habitat in Austria. D. Jacquin." RCN: 588.

Lectotype (Cope in Cafferty & al. in Taxon 49: 255. 2000): Austria. " Poa distans . triandra digyn. Crescit in fossis aquosis et locis humidis per Austriam". Herb. Jacquin fil. (W) .

Current name: Puccinellia distans (Jacq.) Parl. ( Poaceae).

Note: Poa distans has been widely, but incorrectly, treated as a Linnaean name dating from 1767, and the basionym of Puccinellia distans (L.) Parl., hence its inclusion here. While Linnaeus did refer to Jacquin ("Habitat in Austria. D. Jacquin"), he gave no reference to any earlier publication. However, as noted by Walter Gutermann (pers. comm.), P. distans was, in fact, published by Jacquin in 1764.
