Neotype (Westphal, Pulses Ethiopia, Taxon. Agric. Signif.: 146. 1974): Cultivated material "grown from seeds collected in Ethiopia", Westphal 8622 (WAG; iso- K, P).
Current name: Phaseolus lunatus L. var. lunatus ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: A number of authors, following Verdcourt (in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. East Africa, Leguminosae 4: 615. 1971) have treated a description by Bergen (Cat. Stirp. Hort. Med. Acad. Viandr.: 99. 1744) as the type. However, it is not accompanied by an illustration and, in the absence of any original material, Westphal designated a neotype.
