Panicum glaucum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 56. 1753.

"Habitat in Indiis." RCN: 476.

Lectotype (Rauschert in Feddes Repert. 83: 662. 1973): Herb. Hermann 3: 17, No. 44 (BM-000621854) .

Current name: Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br. ( Poaceae).

Note: Chase (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 22: 216. 1920) used the name in the sense of pearl millet but did not explicitly designate a type. There is also discussion of the name and its usage by Stapf (in Kew Bull. 1928: 147-149. 1928) and Terrell (in Taxon 25: 297-304. 1976). Rauschert, however, appears to have been the first to make an unequivocal choice of type.
