Portulaca portulacastrum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 446. 1753.
"Habitat in Curassao." RCN: 3652.
Basionym of: Sesuvium portulacastrum (L.) L. (1759) .
Lectotype (Wijnands, Bot. Commelins: 175. 1983): [icon] " Portulaca Corassavica Angusto longo lucidoque folio" in Hermann, Parad. Bat.: 212. 1698.
Current name: Sesuvium portulacastrum (L.) L. ( Aizoaceae).
Note: Jeffrey (in Hubbard & Milne-Redhead, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Aizoaceae: 20. 1961) indicated an unspecified Hermann specimen in Herb. Sloane (BM-SL) as “typotype” . This would not have been seen by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name. Jeffrey was followed by many later authors, but Wijnands appears to have been the first to designate clearly, as lectotype, the Hermann plate cited in Linnaeus’ protologue.
