Pteronarcys dorsata (Say) .

This species has one of the widest ranges for stoneflies in North America (Nelson 2000) and typically occupies cooler waters than P. pictetii Hagen. Both P. dorsata and P. pictetti has been found in the same stream reach within the Midwest as the record shows here for Elkhart and Lafayette, Indiana. This species has never been found in Illinois (Frison 1935, 1937; DeWalt et al. 2005), but was reported from Elkhart, Indiana by Nelson (1971). We have found the Elkhart specimens in the CNC collection and provide one additional record.
