TYPE SPECIES: Felis marmorata Martin, 1837, by monotypy.

COMMENTS: There is considerable cotroversy over the correct placement of this genus. Hemmer (1978), Kräl and Zima (1980), Groves (1982a), and Kratochvfl (1982c) suggested a close relationship with Panthera . Pocock (19324) and Weigel (1961) suggested a relationship with felines while recognizing similarities with Panthera . It is perhaps best considered incertae sedis.
