Type Locality: Papua New Guinea, Mambare River, Tamata, 100 ft. (33 m.).
Vernacular Names: New Guinea Naked-backed Fruit Bat.
Distribution: Waigeo, Yapen, Batanta, and Misool Isls through New Guinea to N Queensland (Australia); possibly the Aru Isls.
Conservation: IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) – Not Threatened as D. moluccense magna . IUCN 2003 – Not listed.
Discussion: moluccensis species group. Often included in moluccensis (e.g., Koopman, 1979; Hill, 1983), but see Bergmans and Sarbini (1985). Also see Flannery (1995 a, b).
