Type Locality: Gabon.
Vernacular Names: Franquet's Epauletted Fruit Bat.
Synonyms: Epomops comptus H. Allen 1861; Epomops strepitans K. Andersen 1910 .
Distribution: Côte d’Ivoire to Sudan, Uganda, NW Tanzania, N Zambia, and Angola. Previous reports of this species from Guinea are in error (J. Fahr, pers. comm.).
Conservation: IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) – Not Threatened. IUCN 2003 – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Reviewed by Bergmans (1989). No subspecies are presently recognized.
