Stamina 5, petalis opposita. Ovarium inferum. Semina scabra, saepe longitudinaliter elevato-areola vel papillosa, brunneola vel viridula.

Type: Mitella japonica Maxim .

Note: Section Mitellaria, including only M. pentandra of North America, is similar to sect. Asimitellaria in having five stamens opposite the petals, but distinctly differs in having glabrous, smooth, black seeds, and a chromosome count of 2n = 14. Section Asimitellaria has 2n = 28 showing diploidized allotetraploidy. M. formosana of Taiwan also belongs to this section. The sections, Mitella ( M. diphylla), Mitellastra ( M. caulescens), Mitellina ( M. stauropetala, M. trifida, M. diversifolia), Brewerimitella (M. breweri, M. ovalis), are in North America.
