Chaetocnemistoptera semifurcata (Borgmeier)

(Fig 4)

Hypocera semifurcata Borgmeier, 1923a: 629 .

Chaetocnemistoptera semifurcata; Borgmeier, 1923b: 51; Brown, 1992a: 52. Chaetopleurophora semifurcata; Borgmeier, 1961: 4; 1968: 14.

Chaetocnemistoptera furcamperdens; Schmitz, 1927: 32; 1929: 94; Borgmeier, 1961: 3 (syn.).

Diagnosis. No useful diagnosis can be given as no males could be associated with the female holotype.

Material examined. Holotype ♀, BRAZIL: Rio de Janeiro: PetrĂ³polis, 8.x.1922, B. Ronchi col. (MZSP).

Comments. The association of males to the female holotype of C. semifurcata (as made by Borgmeier, 1961) cannot be made with confidence by this time. Four of the new species ( C. lobata, C. magdalena, C. trichopoda, C. pityropyga) described herein can be diagnosed only by male structures. All could possibly be the male of C. semifurcata, as they show a similar coloration and chaetotaxy to the female holotype of this species.
