The family Myrotheciomycetaceae was introduced by Crous et al. (2018) with four genera, Emericellopsis J. F. H. Beyma, Leucosphaerina Arx, Myrotheciomyces Crous and Trichothecium Link. Bao et al. (2023) exclude Emericellopsis from Myrotheciomycetaceae based on the phylogenetic analysis and showed that the type strain of Myrotheciomyces corymbiae (CPC 33206) is accommodated in Trichothecium s. str. In the present study, the type strain of Myrotheciomyces corymbiae clustered in the Trichothecium clade (Fig. 4). Thus, we propose to synonymize Myrotheciomyces with Trichothecium as the latter is the older generic epithet.
