Diagnosis. The genus Limnellia is distinguished from other genera of the tribe Scatellini as follows: 1 pair of well-developed, lateroclinate fronto-orbital setae; gena narrow; thorax with vittate markings; 2 dorsocentral setae (0+2); wing mostly dark brown, with white markings; surstyli well developed as unfused processes at ventral margin of epandrium; phallapodeme reduced, Y-shaped (Mathis, 1978).
