Chondrodesmus Silvestri, 1897

Type species: Chondrodesmus armatus Silvestri, 1897: 13, by monotypy.

Diagnosis. The genus is distinguished from other genera of the tribe by probably the least specialized gonopodal coxites, these being unusually small, relatively short, densely setose and devoid of outgrowths (Hoffman 1978, 1997).

Composition and distribution. Altogether 48 species: 23 nominal species from Central America, up to Costa Rica in the north, and 25 more from South America, down to Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and western Amazonia of Brazil in the south (Hoffman 1978, 1999).
