Nothopleurus ebeninus Lacordaire, 1868 (= Nothopleurus subsulcatus (Dalman, 1823))

(Figures 9–12)

Nothopleurus ebeninus Lacordaire, 1868: 125; Monné, 2018c: 125 (cat.; in syn.).

According to Lacordaire (1868), related to Nothopleurus (translated): “Its only species is a large and beautiful insect from Yucatan, which I know from my friend Mr. C. A. Dohrn.” Without doubt, Lacordaire returned the specimen to C. A. Dohrn, because Lameere (1902a) reported (translated): “I have seen of this rare species only one specimen, the male of the Yucatan, type of Lacordaire, that Dr. Henri Dohrn was extremely kind to send me from Stettin.” Lameere (1902a) correctly synonymized N. ebeninus with N. subsulcatus .

According to Monné (2018c) and Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2018) the holotype is deposited in the CMSP collection. Actually, the holotype is deposited in the ZMPA collection.
