Hy phop o di a l ae v i gate, d ark brow n, approximately circular in frontal view, with irregular lobate margins. Clear spot in the central area of only one face, showing the point of host penetration. Diameter ca. 15–28 µm (x 18 µm). Ecological data: Gaeumannomyces species are parasitic or saprophytic on the stems and roots of various cereals, including wheat, rice, and oats (Von Arx, 1974; Alexopoulos et al., 1996).
