Hexachaeta colombiana Lima

Distribution. Previously reported from Colombia (Cundinamarca, Santander) and Costa Rica (Cartago, Puntarenas) (Hernández-Ortiz 1999). Here it is reported from the departments of Antioquia (Santa Bárbara), Boyacá (Miraflores) and Risaralda (Pereira).

Biology: A number of specimens from Anolaima were reared from fruits of Aegiphila alba Moldenke ( Lamiaceae) locally known as “árbol tabaquillo” (Fig. 22–23). The larvae feed inside the seeds (Figs. 24–25) and it is the first report of a host plant for this species.

Comments: Examined specimens are smaller in length of mesonotum, wing (Fig. 7), oviscape and aculeus (Fig. 14) than previously reported for this species. (Table 1) indicates the ranges for these characters. Additionally, the first measurements for the aculeus tip (Fig. 16) of H. colombiana (0.11–0.14 mm long) (n=104).
