Diagnosis.

Distinguishable from other fungi based on diagnostic nucleotide signatures in SSU V 9 (positions 1672–1686 in S. cerevisiae ggcctccggattgat; no mismatch allowed) and LSU D 2 (positions 524–538 in the type species and 460–474 in S. cerevisiae ttggtattttgggtg; three mismatches allowed). Forms a monophyletic, least inclusive clade in Sedimentomastigomycetes, covering sequences EUK 0319782, EUK 0574067, EUK 0574066, EUK 1152060, and EUK 1191154 (Fig. 1).
