Lepidiota oblonga Brenske, 1900
Lepidiota oblonga Brenske, 1900: 622 .
Lectotype (here designated) female (Fig. 31): Thursday Isl. [Thursday Island] [10.59°S, 142.22°E] leg. Dr Semon (handwritten) | Lepidiota oblonga type Brsk (handwritten) | Coll. Brenske (black bordered, typeset) | my lectotype label; in ZMB .
Brenske (1900) did not define the type series, seeing an unknown number of males (vide Articles 73.1.2, 72.1.1). Britton (1978) did not include it in his revision of Australian Melolonthini, but it was listed by Houston & Weir (1992), who referred to a “ holotype ” female in ZMB but provided no discussion as to why they thought Brenske (1900) saw only one specimen. This does not constitute a valid lectotype designation (vide Article 74.5), and I designate the specimen in ZMB the lectotype.
