Euonymus colpoon Linnaeus, Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 210. 1771, nom. illeg.

"Habitat in Cap. b. spei littoribus maritimis. Lepelboom Belgis." RCN: 1599.

Replaced synonym: Colpoon compressum P.J. Bergius (1767) .

Type not designated.

Current name: Osyris compressa (P.J. Bergius) A. DC. ( Santalaceae).

Note: Archer & Van Wyk (in J. S. African Bot. 63: 149. 1997) treat this name as a legitimate synonym of Cassine peragua L. ( Celastraceae), and typify it on the cited Burman plate (Rar. Afr. Pl. t. 86, f. 240. 1739). However, this is clearly incorrect as Colpoon compressum P.J. Bergius ( Santalaceae) is cited in Linnaeus’ protologue so Linnaeus’ name is superfluous and illegitimate, and homotypic with Bergius’ name.
