Lectotype (Reveal in Turland & Jarvis in Taxon 46: 469. 1997): [icon] "Corallodendron humile, spica florum longissima coccinea, radice crassissimo" in Catesby, Nat. Hist. Carolina 2: 49, t. 49. 1736.

Current name: Erythrina herbacea L. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Krukoff (in Phytologia 22: 255. 1971) and Krukoff & Barneby (in Lloydia 37: 343. 1974) noted seeing a photo of 888.1 (LINN), and confirmed its identity but concluded that it was not original material for the name. Ali (in Nasir & Ali, Fl. W. Pakistan 100: 236. 1977) designated this material as type but it is a post-1753 addition to the collection, and not original material for the name.
