Epimedium alpinum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 117. 1753.
"Habitat in alpinum Euganeorum, Ligurinorum, Pontebarum umbrosis." RCN: 958.
Lectotype (Chamberlain in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 45. 1993): Herb. Clifford: 37, Epimedium 1 (BM-000557819) .
Generitype of Epimedium Linnaeus.
Current name: Epimedium alpinum L. ( Berberidaceae).
Note: Stearn (in J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 51: 472. 1938) stated that Linnaeus knew this only from garden material and that the Colli Euganei (near Padova, Italy) should be regarded as the type locality. However, he did not designate a type. Stearn (Genus Epimedium: 3-4, 155-156. 2002) subsequently provided further comments on Linnaeus’ knowledge of this species.
