Type species. Phonotimpus separatus Gertsch & Davis, 1940

Remarks. See Platnick et al. (2022) for diagnostic characteristics. This genus comprises 32 species, all from Mexico (World Spider Catalog 2023). Most species are distributed in the northeast and north-central Mexico, but several species are known from the south-central and southwestern regions of the country. Moreover, most species (30 species) are grouped into five species groups (Platnick et al. 2022).
