The subgenus Galerucella is represented in Canada and the United States by a single species, G. nymphaeae (Linnaeus, 1758), which also occurs in the Palearctic Region. The subgenus Neogalerucella includes two species that are native to Canada and the northern United States. It also includes two Palearctic species that have intentionally been introduced to Canada and the United States for biological control of the invasive plant Lythrum salicaria L. ( Lythraceae).
