Triton ingens (Green, 1831)

[= Salamandra tigrina Green, 1825a]

Holbrook (1842e:85, pl. 24) offered a brief account of another of Green’s species Salamandra ingens, which is now considered a junior subjective synonym of the Tiger Salamander ( Ambystoma tigrinum). The accompanying illustration by C. Rogers is very high quality and was done from life based on a specimen from Tennessee provided by Troost. While Holbrook apparently had specimens of Tiger Salamander that he considered to be Triton ingens, none are currently known to exist with that label among his extant collections.
