Ethirothrips vitreipennis (Priesner)
Scotothrips vitreipennis Priesner, 1939: 54–55 .
Mirab-Balou et al. (2011) recognised the distribution of E. vitreipennis as China (Hainan and Fujian) and India, although it was originally described from Congo based on two macropterous females. Subsequently, Faure (1955) recorded this species from South Africa with supplemental description and measurements of both sexes. In the key to Ethirothrips species from China, Dang et al. (2013) referred this species as “body bicoloured, largely yellow except brown tube”, but it is undoubtedly uniformly dark brown species according to the original description. It is very strange that they probably examined this species, because the head and prothorax with left fore leg are clearly drawn (see Fig. 9 in Dang et al., 2013), and the specific name in the key, vitreipennis, is not indicated by an asterisk (this asterisk indicate that the information of the species is from the original description, not from the specimen), therefore this identification remains questionable. Unfortunately, any specimens of vitreipennis have not been available for this study.
