Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype (NHM): card-mounted, “ Cyphon Huttoni \ Type D. S.” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “ Type \ H. T.” [round label with red border], “Holo- \ type ” [round label with red border], “Ottago, [red underline] \ New Zeal. \ (Hutton)”, “Hutton Otago ” [handwritten], “Sharp Coll \ 1905-313.”, “ Holotype \ Cyphon huttoni \ Sharp \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. The species was collected in Otago by Hutton, who sent it to Sharp (Sharp 1878). This species was omitted in the catalogue by Zwick et al. (2013).
