Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype (NHM): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “Holo- \ type” [round label with red border], “1388.” [in Broun’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.”, “laterale” [in Broun’s hand], “ Cyphon \ lateralis .” [in Broun’s hand], “Holotype \ Cyphon lateralis \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. Broun examined a single specimen from Upper Taieri, Otago, which was sent by Hutton (Broun 1883).
