Material examined. Holotype of Mutilla indiga, ♂, India, Jhansi, N.W. India, alt 850 ped, 2.08.[19]05, Brunetti // Mutilla indiga ♂ Bingh. Type // B // 6065, 15 // Type // Holotype // Smicromyrme indigo Holotype B. Petersen det. 19[80] // Calcutta [NZC] .

Remark. Bingham’s (1908) notes that this species “superficially resembles Mutilla (Odontomutilla) herpa Cameron, from Sarawak, but structure, shape of median segment, and sculpture, all differ widely”. These characters were the reason for the preliminary placement of Mutilla indiga in the genus Odontomutilla (Lelej 2005) . After studying the holotype we hereby transfer this species to Smicromyrme Thomson, 1870 .
