Type Locality: Turkey, Sumela (=Meryemana), south of Trebizond (Kryštufek, 1999 c) .

Vernacular Names: Robert's Snow Vole.

Synonyms: Chionomys circassicus (Heptner 1948); Chionomys occidentalis (Turov 1928); Chionomys personatus Ognev 1924; Chionomys pshavus (Shidlovski 1919); Chionomys turovi (Hoffmeister 1949) .

Distribution: Forests in W Caucasus (Georgia and Azerbaijan), and in E Black Sea Mtns, NE Turkey.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: Distributional and biological aspects of Turkish populations reported by Kryštufek (1999 c), who noted slight chromosomal differences between those and Caucasus populations.
