Type Locality: Brazil, Minas Gerais State, near Lagoa Santa.

Vernacular Names: False Oryzomys.

Synonyms: Pseudoryzomys wavrini (Thomas 1921); Pseudoryzomys reigi Pine and Wetzel 1975 .

Distribution: EC Bolivia, NE Argentina (Chaco, Formosa, Sante Fe; Pardiñas et al., in litt.), and W Paraguay, to E Brazil (Pernambuco).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Formerly classified as Oryzomys incertae sedis (Cabrera, 1961) until genus diagnosed by Hershkovitz (1962). Lectotype designated, synonymy presented, karyotype and distribution discussed by Voss and Myers (1991).
