Distribution: E slopes of Sierra Madre Oriental, from SE Hidalgo to C Veracruz, México.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Relegated to a subspecies of Peromyscus thomasi by Musser (1964); reinstated to species rank by Carleton (1989).
