Type Locality: Perú, Madre de Dios Dept., Reserva Cusco Amazónico, 14 km E Puerto Maldonado, left (= north) bank of Río Madre de Dios, 200 m; 12º33′S, 69º03′W.

Vernacular Names: Gardner's Rhipidomys.

Distribution: Westernmost Brazil (Acre) and lowlands of SE Perú, perhaps including the valley of the Río Ucayali.

Discussion: R. leucodactylus section sensu Tribe (1996). Morphology and karyotype contrasted to R. leucodactylus by Patton et al. (2000).
