Type Locality: El Salvador, San Miguel Dept., Finca San Felipe, Cerro Cacaguatique, 3500 ft (1067 m).

Vernacular Names: Thomas' Ichthyomyine.

Synonyms: Rheomys chiapensis Hooper 1947; Rheomys stirtoni Dickey 1928 .

Distribution: Highlands of S México (Chiapas), Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Of two named subspecies, Voss (1988) retained stirtoni as valid in addition to the nominate form.
