Discussion: Sigmodontinae incertae sedis. Usually grouped with phyllotines (Olds and Anderson, 1989; Vorontsov, 1959), a tribal affiliation supported by cladistic analyses of morphological traits (Braun, 1993; Steppan, 1995) but not of cytochrome b sequences (D’Elía et al., 2003; Smith and Patton, 1999).
