Type Locality: Venezuela, Territorio Federal Amazonas, Cerro de la Neblina, Camp VII, 1800 m; 00°50'40"N, 65°58'10"W.

Vernacular Names: Wetzel's Rhipidomys.

Distribution: Highlands in S Venezuela (Bolívar and Amazonas) and N Brazil (as per Fonseca et al., 1996).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: R. fulviventer section sensu Tribe (1996). A small species, contrasted to R. fulviventer by Gardner (1989) and morphometrically well differentiated from the fulviventer venustus complex (Tribe, 1996).
