Discussion: Myodini. Assigned to Clethrionomyini by Hooper and Hart (1962) and Gromov and Polyakov (1977); placed in subtribe Myodina, Prometheomyini, by Pavlinov et al. (1995 a) and Pavlinov and Rossolimo (1998). Phylogenetically near Alticola but more fossorial (Corbet, 1978 c; Corbet and Hill, 1992). Taxonomy, geographic distribution, and subspecific classification monographed by Phillips (1969).
