Notes About Type Material.
After studying the
holotype
of
Anisotarsus cephalus
Casey, I
reject
Noonan’s (1973:305)
synonymy, and accept van Emdem’s (
l.c.
) opinion recognizing this as a valid species based on external morphological differences. Also, the
lectotype
of
Anisotarsus tenuitarsus
Casey
is not conspecific with
N. nitidipennis
as proposed by Noonan, but is conspecific with
N. cephalus
,
as proposed by van Emdem (
l.c.
).
Comparison.
Specimens of this species are separated from those of
N. nitidipennis
by a combination of three character states (supported by ratios) and locality: head wide (Hw/Pw =
0.714
–0.786
; Hw/SBL =
0.265
–0.299
); gena wide (Gw/Sw =
0.818
–1.091
); pronotum wide (Pl/Pw =
0.618
–0.657
); and from a locality in
Florida
. Additionally, males have 2 pairs of setae on abdominal sternum VII.

Geographical Distribution.
This species is restricted to the
Florida
peninsula, where it probably originated, and is thus another Floridian precinctive species (Frank and McCoy 1990: 5).
