Members of this genus are generally associated with Poaceae , including agricultural crops of this family, but also occur on a wide range of other shrubs and herbs ( Mound and Masumoto 2009 ). Some species, such as An. sudanensis Trybom and An. obscurus (Muller) , are highly polyphagous and have been associated with a variety of plant families in Europe and the Middle East (zur Strassen 2003).
