ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 127.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus Insubriae [Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold) (MZUF: Box 1): Volucella Gffr. / hybrida Rnd., Alpi / 25.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Volucella bombylans (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Peck 1988: 129, Belcari et al. 1995a: 14).
REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 127) described Volucella hybrida from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. We found one syntype in this study.
